Vicki Saporta, Expert on Violence against Abortion Providers, Hails Capture of Eric Rudolph

Statement of Vicki Saporta, President and CEO of the National Abortion Federation

Washington, DC - "Eric Rudolph's capture marks the third time in just over two years that a violent anti-choice extremist on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List has been apprehended. He follows James Kopp, who was recently convicted of killing Dr. Barnett Slepian, and Clayton Waagner, who is in custody and facing charges for sending more than 500 anthrax threat letters to abortion clinics.

"For over 25 years the National Abortion Federation (NAF) has tracked violence against abortion providers, and we know that it takes a strong commitment from law enforcement in order to capture these criminals. We are grateful to the FBI, the ATF and all the law enforcement officers who have worked so hard over many years to bring Eric Rudolph to justice.

"We expect that Rudolph will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We urge law enforcement officials to continue their vigilance in enforcing the law and prosecuting domestic terrorists who resort to violence to advance their extreme personal and political agendas."
