National Abortion Federation Encourages South Dakota Voters to Reject Abortion Ban

Washington, DC - On November 7, the citizens of South Dakota will vote on repealing the most restrictive abortion ban in the nation that outlaws abortion at all stages of pregnancy, with only a limited exception if necessary to save the life of the woman. Earlier this year, the abortion ban was passed by the South Dakota legislature and signed by Governor Rounds.

"For more than 30 years, Roe v. Wade has protected the lives and health of American women. The citizens of South Dakota will not tolerate a return to the days of back-alley abortions when a woman had to sacrifice her life and health to terminate an unwanted pregnancy. We therefore encourage voters to vote 'No on Six,'" National Abortion Federation (NAF) President and CEO Vicki Saporta said.

NAF has supported the Campaign for Healthy Families and has been working on the ground assisting in the outreach and GOTV efforts.

"We must ensure that South Dakota continues to allow women safe and legal access to essential reproductive health care services," said Saporta. "We are confident that voters will reject the abortion ban on Election Day."
