SUSPICIOUS MAIL

Abortion clinics across the country are often targeted with threatening or suspicious mail. For example, in the fall of 2001, hundreds of clinics received letters containing white powder, threatening to be anthrax. While the powder was determined not to be anthrax, the threats caused emotional and economic damage to clinics and the communities whose law enforcement officials responded to them.
